Loved ones want peace in the relationships, don\u2019t want anger, and are blamed for the addict\u2019s problems, experience guilt and low self-esteem which cause them to try to help the addicts even more. The irony is their love and behavior towards him could lead to the very consequences they fear. Therefore, <strong>the way they protect and nurture the addict also nurtures the addiction. For those who have experienced recovery and have then relapsed, we have a special treatment program.<\/p><p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">We develop a program specifically for the individual who has experienced recovery and then relapsed. We provide specialized education and process groups, which focus on the specific, problematic issues the relapse patient is presenting.<\/p><p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Many who have been in treatment before and have been successful in recovery are well versed in the various educational topics presented to the patient population. Consequently, they participate in relapse education classes. These classes are based on Terence Gorski\u2019s Developmental Model of Recovery and Relapse. Patients learn to identify mistaken beliefs about relapse, personal recovery \u2018stuck points,\u2019 relapse justifications and relapse warning signs.<\/p><p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">In process groups,\u00a0those who have relapsed are able to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors that contributed to their relapse and identify future relapse threats. We have found many of our relapse patients have lost their focus on the Steps prior to relapsing.
