Many people ask, “Why should I attend the addiction Counselor training school versus going to college or a university?”<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

If you have a good grasp on recovery concepts and competency to practice what we teach in our school, you should be able to start working in the field as an intern within 8 months instead of 2 years for your Associates degree in addiction counseling. Texas Department Of State Health Services allows students to take up to 5 years to finish the rest of their courses towards their Associates degree in counseling. If you already have an Associates, Bachelors or Master’s degree, we help you acquire the remaining classes you need to start working in the field.<\/p>\r\n

New classes will start December 5, 2023. You can start any class every 5 weeks as long as you attend the entire class.  <\/p>\r\n

Carol Cloud who ran the Houston LCDC Training school for over 20 years has opened the Houston Addiction Counselor Training School. <\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

San Antonio received the Certificate of Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission on August 24, 2016 and had our first graduate on September 12, 2017<\/span>.   We are scheduling appointments for interested students to call us and register. Please call Steve or Laura at 210-541-8400 to start the classes or come in and look at the facilities. Classes will be small and personal, but we do have space to grow.<\/p>\r\n

We are continuously updating the curriculum to include new therapeutic approaches and improve on old techniques.<\/p>\r\n

All students will be required to attain an Associate\u2019s Degree within 5 years of obtaining the LCDC Intern status become a fully Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. The 270 hours is approved for 18 CEU hours, the 300-hour practicum is approved for 7 CEU hours at some universities. The acceptance of the hours is at the discretion of each university. We are working with online colleges and Universities to help our students enter the field immediately and acquire the Associates degree during their internship.<\/p>\r\n

NOTE<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 We receive phone calls from several facilities throughout the state seeking LCDC\u2019s, and Counselor Interns; there are numerous opportunities.<\/p>\r\n

To become a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, you must complete a 270-hour education course, a 300-hour practicum and 4000 hours (2 years full time) as a supervised intern. You will also be required to pass a written exam, pay a licensing fee and have a minimum of an Associate\u2019s Degree in Counseling.<\/p>\r\n
